We're slow to quote
and fast to tarp.

A proper roof quote takes a ladder, an attic and an hour, so that's what we spend. When a storm opens somebody's ceiling, the tarp truck rolls the same evening, quote or no quote. Both habits come from the same place: the roof is the part of the house that isn't allowed to fail.

We put on slate, cedar, copper and standing seam. We don't do the cheapest shingle, and we say so on the phone to save everyone the visit. What we put on, we stand under: 50-year material warranties registered to the house, and our own workmanship in writing on page one.

The mortgage runs thirty years.
